In the past few weeks, there has been an unprecedented push against conservative candidates.
When I first arrived in the Mississippi legislature eight years ago, I wrote an article in which I estimated there were 20 conservative legislators in the Mississippi House of Representatives. That observation proved to be somewhat optimistic but generally true. But as I prepare to leave the legislature, I see that number has dwindled to almost zero.
What Happened?
The last holdout for conservative principles in the Mississippi legislature was the Mississippi House Conservative Coalition. This group had been birthed by conservatives in the House who were tired of being beaten by liberals and Democrats. They were often called the "conservative conscience" of the Mississippi House.
But while this group was growing in numbers, another group was forming. Philip Gunn came onto the scene and soon decided there was no need for a conservative group of legislators. The two groups coexisted for several years until Gunn saw an opportunity to kill the conscience. When he did that, he took the money, dismantled the only voice for conservative policy, and led the legislature on its downward slide into big government.
As we watched the liberalization of the Republican Party, Steve Hopkins and I decided to form the Mississippi Freedom Caucus. Today, the Mississippi Freedom Caucus is the only group of legislators who fight every day for the Republican Party Platform.
Because we have dared to go against the overlords in Mississippi government, those in positions of power have launched an all-out attack on anyone associated with the conservative movement. They have spent millions of dollars, much of it from Democrats and out-of-state liberals, in hopes of ending any chance that conservative candidates have to gain control of the legislature.
Chris Brown, Proven Conservative
One of the races in which Democrats have decided to fight against the conservative is the Northern District Public Service Commissioner race. Proven conservative Chris Brown has run his campaign on his twelve-year record in the Mississippi legislature. Chris has been instrumental in banning sex change practices being performed on our Mississippi children, protecting women's sports, by stopping biological men from competing against girls, defending life, which ultimately led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and protecting our 2nd Amendment right, including constitutional carry. Chris is a successful entrepreneur who will not sell his position on the Public Service Commission to the highest bidder.
His opponent has taken money from solar farm businesses. So why are solar farm businesses funding a Public Service Commissioner race in Mississippi? Because once Tanner is elected, you can bet money, and they are, that one of his donors will get a huge contract in Mississippi. Tanner’s campaign is also being funded by two of the best known Democrats in Mississippi. Wealthy Democrats know who is on their side and who will help promote the Biden Climate Agenda, and it is NOT Chris Brown.
Below is an example of who is donating to Tanner Newman. Why are long time Democrats donating to him? Because they know he is a Democrat pretending to be a Republican. Do not be fooled!
The primary election on August 8 is the last chance for the citizens of Mississippi to have a conservative government that represents their values. If the establishment folks win, there isn’t much chance in Mississippi to stop the Biden agenda.
