Raising the minimum wage sounds kind. Who gets hurt first? Beginners. Teenagers, people reentering the workforce, folks with disabilities, and anyone who needs that first rung on the ladder.
Heard all those arguments . However, none of those are supported by studies made by economists. Negative effects are only seen when a raise in the minimum wage is say doubled. Gradually increasing minimum wages does not cause the negative effects alleged by your argument. Raising minimum wages by and large raises people out of poverty. Lowers aid paid to poor people. All of the arguments against raising the minimum wage are not proven in the real world. Let’s be perfectly clear , no one in this country at this time in history learns any jobs skills that elevates them to more qualified, higher paying jobs. Being paid minimum wages, No one gets a job paying a living wage because they started working for minimum wage jobs. Education, trade skills, etc , are not acquired by working for minimum wage . Keeping the minimum wage low just takes advantage of the unskilled .
