"Why are you a Republican?" It's a question I often encounter, especially in today's political climate where our elected officials seem to have no core beliefs or values. Many observe politicians who, regardless of party affiliation, appear more interested in self-preservation than serving the American people. We've all seen elected officials campaign on promises they swiftly abandon once in office.
The division in our nation seems to be getting larger, protest are becoming more violent, debate ends in argument, and unity as a nation seems to be lost. As we watch the division grow, some believe that if our political leaders could just set aside their differences we'd all benefit. We just want everyone to get-along. However, I believe this perspective is misguided. Let me explain why.
Contrary to popular belief, our government officials aren't divided. While politicians publicly fight along party lines, behind closed doors, their primary objective remains constant: re-election. Many elected Democrats and Republicans share this fundamental goal, which often leads them to agreements that only secure their positions of power even if it's bad for our country.
If our politicians were truly divided on matters of ideology and policy, this division would yield better outcomes for the American people. Vigorous debate about how to make our nation better is good and when both parties share the common goal of improving the lives of the people then that debate produces good policy. But, when politicians who have no foundation of ideology create division among the people to enhance their power, the people lose.
At the Tippah County Republican Party, we stand for the core principles upon which our party was founded, not for the sake of party allegiance or our own personal gain. Recently, representatives from Tippah County reaffirmed our commitment to these principles at the Republican Party State Convention. Our mission statement below and Party Platform outline these principles, guiding our actions and decisions.
Mission of the Tippah County Republican Party:
