Mississippi Freedom Caucus Makes Statement about Ending Mask Mandate
OCTOBER 1, 2020
Statement on Governor's Executive Order Changes
Yesterday Governor Reeves announced the end of a portion of the state-wide mask mandates. We applaud the governor's actions and commend him for heeding the demands of the citizens of Mississippi. We hope the governor has realized the extent to which he has overstepped the bounds of government and his role as governor. The Mississippi Freedom Caucus maintains the belief that government has no authority to dictate individual mandates on the citizens of our state.
While we were pleased to hear Governor Reeves express his renewed trust in the people to make their own decisions and choices, we are disappointed that he is continuing the intrusive heavy-handed approach with businesses and schools. The people of Mississippi are smart, capable people who care deeply about their fellow citizens and neighbors. If government officials would simply get out of their way, reduce the burden of ever increasing taxes and regulations, the people will thrive and succeed. When politicians have the ability to take a freedom from the people, that freedom becomes a privilege bestowed upon them by a benevolent ruler. The people of Mississippi are a free people, our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, to run our businesses and make our own decisions are not granted to us by the governor or any other politician or bureaucrat. Our rights are bestowed upon us by our creator and, The Mississippi Freedom Caucus has dedicated our time and energy to defending those God-given rights at all cost. Again, thank you Governor Reeves for taking steps in the right direction, but please continue down this path of freedom and liberty for the people of Mississippi. For Mississippi, Rep. Steve Hopkins Rep. Dana Criswell Rep. Dan Eubanks Rep. Brady Williamson Rep. Chris Brown
