Anti-Gun Legislation Introduced in Mississippi Senate

The second week of the 2020 legislative session was full of ceremony and history. Sometimes I get frustrated and tired of all the ceremonial procedures of government but I realize that for two hundred years the people of Mississippi have been participating in these rituals and ceremonies. They tie us to our past and help us realize the importance of the decisions made by our government.

On Tuesday Tate Reeves was sworn in as governor of the state of Mississippi. I believe Gov. Reeves may prove to be the most conservative governor in Mississippi in decades. I have great hope that he will govern according to the same principles and values on which he spoke on the campaign trail.

While the House of Representatives is still organizing its committees the Senate has already begun its work. Unfortunately one of the first bills submitted was an anti-freedom, anti-gun bill. While this bill doesn't have much chance of advancement it indicates what the democrats want to accomplish. Senate Bill 2055, submitted by Senators Jackson and Jordan, is an unconstitutional “Red Flag” law. These laws are used to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens without due-process. This will not survive the legislative process but we must remain vigilant because the anti-gunners are present in Mississippi.

Second Amendment Sanctuary

The Second Amendment Sanctuary Movement is beginning to sweep across Mississippi. On Tuesday of this week Desoto and Alcorn County supervisors will vote on resolutions to make their counties second amendment sanctuaries.

A Second Amendment Sanctuary County will resolve to:

  • refuse to enforce any unconstitutional law that attempts to confiscate or disarm law-abiding citizens

  • refuse to spend any of your tax dollars confiscating firearms from law-abiding citizens

  • pledge to use all means available to defend citizens and law enforcement officers who refuse to abide by unconstitutional gun confiscation laws

If your county or city is not a Second Amendment Sanctuary why not? Are your local elected officials afraid to take a stand for the second amendment? Do they claim to support your rights but refuse to take action? Ask your local elected officials to take a stand and support your second amendment rights before its too late and we lose our rights like the state of Virginia.

I appreciate the opportunity the people of Olive Branch and District 6 have given me to make a difference in our state. If you have any questions or suggestions please contact me.

Dana
